A potent hypotensive peptide hormone with structural similarity to calcitonin gene-related peptide. Inhibits 125I-adrenomedullin binding to specific sites in brain (IC50 = 1.2 nM). Has vasodilatory properties. Suppresses CRF-induced ACTH-release from cultured primary cells. Reported to augment nitric oxide synthase expression in IL-1β -stimulated cardiac myocytes.
