Listeria


Listeria has been involved in many cases of food poisoning involving a wide range of foods such as milks, vegetables, meats, cheeses, ice cream and seafood. Listeria is widespread in the environment and the most important species is Listeria monocytogenes.
The isolation of Listeria monocytogenes is however very difficult because for the low numbers of bacteria which are usually present. In addition, as a small colony, they are quickly overgrown by other bacteria.
All efforts therefore concentrate on suppressing accompanying flora.
We offer a full range of products for the rapid and effective analysis of Listeria including enrichment broths, supplements and selective agars or broths.
Our differential agars maximise the chance of successfully isolating Listeria monocytogenes, even when only present in small quantities.
