Staphylococci


Staphylococcus are commonly found on the skin and mucous membranes. They can be readily transferred to foods by handling or inadequate heating, so careless handling of foods during preparation can easily lead to contamination of food with Staphylococcus.
The symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea can occur very soon afterwards.
We offer an easy to use 3 step test for Staphylococcus which ensures rapid and reliable results. All media used is granulated for greater safety and even three choices of confirmatory test are provided to suit the needs and preferences of the individual laboratory.
The selective agars employed in step 2 are in themselves highly accurate indicators of Staphylococcus contamination so that a presumptive positive result can be seen, and further action taken, before the results of the confirmation test are available.
