Peptone from soymeal is obtained by digesting defatted soymeal with papain. It contains a broad range of nutrients and has a high carbohydrate and vitamin content, it is thus an excellent nutrient base even for fastidious microorganisms. This peptone cannot be used if fermentation tests are to be performed due to its high carbohydrate content.


Analysis
Total nitrogen (ex N; calc. on dried substance): 9.3-10.7%; amino nitrogen (as N): 1.8-3.2%; sulfated ash (800°C): £15%; loss on drying (105°C, 4 h): £6%; pH (5% solution): 6.5-7.5; total nitrogen (as N): 9.3-10.7%.
