Peptone from soymeal is obtained by
digesting defatted soymeal with papain. It contains a broad range of nutrients and has a high
carbohydrate and vitamin content, it is thus an excellent nutrient base even for fastidious
microorganisms. This peptone cannot be used if fermentation tests are to be performed due to its high
carbohydrate content.
