Proteose peptone is a peptone of superior nutrient quality and contains a high proportion of low molecular weight peptides, free amino acids and growth-promoting factors. It has been used successfully as a substrate in the production of toxins and provides an excellent nutrient base for cultivating Neisseria, Staphylococci, Haemophilus, Pasteurella and Corynebacterium.
