A cell-permeable peptide inhibitor derived from the consensus sequence of cyclin/Cdk2 binding motif, PVKRRLFG, that serves as the docking site for cyclin-dependent kinase-2 (Cdk2)/cyclin complexes. Blocks the phosphorylation of substrates by Cdk2/cyclin A and Cdk2/cyclin E complexes. The inhibitor is a chimeric peptide that contains the N-terminal residues from the HIV Tat protein which direct the uptake of the molecule across the cell membrane. Has been shown to preferentially induce apoptosis only in transformed cells and not in nontransformed cells.
