GMO - Genetically Modified Organisms
Customer issue
Genetic modification of products, an important tool for developing plant types with new resistant characteristics, has grown greatly in the past 50 years, and legislation has been developed accordingly. Since 2004, new legislation requires products derived from genetically modified organisms (GMO) to be labelled as such in all EU countries. Any known use of genetic modification appears on food labels so that consumers can make their purchase decision. Thus as a manufacturer for end consumers, you need to know whether a specific product contains GMO. A threshold value was set since scant traces of GMO soy and corn can be found almost everywhere by now, regardless of whether included deliberately.
EMD’s solution
In our certificates you can find statements on the GMO status of our products in accordance with the
most up-to-date European legislation. Regulatory Affairs tracks the supply chain, evaluating the status from the raw material
supplier to the final product.
Benefits for you
It is essential for you as a manufacturer to build up and retain customer confidence. You need to show that you are responsive
to consumer concerns. Merck even goes beyond the legal requirements, making certificates available for products that are not yet
on the EU’s list. And we are able to do this because we are up-to-date on the latest – and upcoming – developments in the field
of regulatory affairs.
