Table water is primarily made by fortifying drinking water with minerals. EMD Chemicals provides various mineral salts with a low bromide content which is required by table water manufacturers. The taste of the table water is largely determined by the mineral salts used and as such, it is important that the mineral salts be available in consistent quality and purity. EMD, under its parent Merck KGaA, operates in 54 countries and can distribute these products consistently throughout the world. Why Low Bromide? Table water is produced by first purifying, filtering and sterilizing drinking or spring water. Mineral salts are then added and the product is again sterilized, typically with ozone, and finally bottled. There is a need to have low bromide content in the mineral salts because ozonation forms bromates which is a toxic by-product. Leveraging its expertise for manufacturing chemicals for the pharmaceutical industry, EMD is able to deliver mineral salts with low bromide content so that we can drink table water safely. We can also custom blend mineral salt mixtures and package them in sizes and materials depending on your needs. |
